What sort of cost would we be talking for one with an insert and a back boiler ?

Like Cheese, we replaced our open fire, which was quite useless, with a fan assisted glass fronted fire, that was10 years ago & it is still very efficient. It was supplied & fitted by the same company that Hogs had a problem with & Cheese recommended. I would also, like Hogs, recommend Carlos Saliente if you go down that road.

Hi we had an open fire until last January, same problem as yourself, so we went to a fire company just down from the albox itv and had a fire put in with the glass door and now our house is very warm, it's the best money we have spent in a long time, and yes the company we used was very good and clean.
Hope this info helps you.

if its a modern villa with enclosed flue / chimney breast, fit a couple of fans to form a heat exchanger in the chimney breast ( assuming the flue is sealed and not leaking )then that will blow hot iar from the flue into the room

if you want a glass doore fire, that also needs to be fan assisted, not just a glass door fire

if the flues good with draw, you should be able to run the glass doored fire door open ,then close at bed time with dampers shut and the fire will still be in  the next day.

also,
with an open fire

good logs ie Olive, pine, orange almond... not roots as they just smoulder.

Hi,
At the moment we have an open fire in our living room which is about as much use as an ashtray on a motor bike.
Would it be possible to fit a glass doored log burner within the open fire and would we benefit from it?
        Thanks
