Thanks for all the replies. problem now solved ,it wasn't the lock, it turned out to be a broken spring in the handle.

Check what he charges BEFORE he comes out to you. My friend was charged 90€ by another locksmith just to replace a lock after she was broken into.

does anyone know of a locksmith that will come out to our house as our door lock needs attension. Thanks
