Quote from: Johnny73 on May 29, 2024, 23:47:56 PMYes Richard I totally agree.
All I have asked for is a ceasefire and a stop to the  the killing of innocents.
Surely that's what the world wants.
I don't care who is right or wrong or who started what.
I just want an end to the killing .
Spain Norway and Ireland have now recognised the state of Palestine so maybe others will follow.

Many people take sides in this dispute which is understandable, especially in the UK given the stances of certain popular newspapers who produce a certain narrative on the conflict. However, if you look back over the years dispassionately, Johnny,  there is no one side that is right and the other wrong.

Both sides have done things which in their different ways have created the current situation in the middle east.

I remember having a chat with someone many many years ago about the conflicts in that area and he asked me what the people of England would do if they were forcibly displaced from their homes by a another race of people and forced to live in a small area of the country without the right to vote or obtain redress for their lost homes and lands. I suspect like many others I knew instinctively what the answer to that question would be.

Simply bombing the palestinians in the way that they have been doing is not the answer because it will create even more hate and terrorists for the future.

I remember listening recently to a podcast from the Jewish son of holocaust survivors. He said that his parents were very decent people. When he asked them what they thought about the British deliberately bombing innocent people in Cologne during the second world war, he was surprised to learn that they jumped for joy. He said that the reason for their joy was because the German officers had so badly treated them and other Jews that they simply thought of revenge and couldn't care less about the impact of the bombing on innocent German civilians. He used this story to explain how the palestinians must feel and how no doubt their support for Hamas was based on revenge for the way they had been treated by the Israeli state and how to use his words they had been herded into a small area of land in huge numbers that was akin to a concentration camp.

In my humble opinion as long as there is an Hamas and a Netanyahu there will never be any prospect of peace in that area.

A ceasefire now would be like cutting out a cancerous tumour and leaving a bit behind to grow again. Finish the job and start from the beginning and the learn lesson of not giving Hamas millions of aid to be spent on weapons and tunnels.

When the Repsol lorry came yesterday, once again he took my orange bottle and left me a blue top one (€19).  On the lorry all the orange bottles were used ones and the full ones blue tops.

Quote from: Johnny73 on May 27, 2024, 14:17:57 PMCongratulations to Israel on dropping a 1000 lb bomb on a tented refugee camp where Palestinians are taking shelter. 45 dead and hundreds wounded. One child on tv with an arm blown off.
Oh by the way the IDF say it was a precision strike on two Hamas terrorists.
Very precise ??
No need for comments , it's just an observation.

Unfortunately Johnny there are some very nasty people in that area of the world who seem to have a lack of morals and view life of others very cheaply.

I am referring to the leadership of both Hamas and Israel

There will be very little prospect of peace until the leadership of both changes.

Quote from: Elgin on May 29, 2024, 13:59:57 PMA nice offer but it's getting hot now and I don't have a trailer.  The big tree might need professionals. Just a thought, have you approached any of the local firewood businesses.
Good idea. Maybe give it a go.

I wish - we sold our Bessacar before moving to Spain and I miss it.  Such a high quality caravan I'm sure you're virtually giving it away.
