We have the same  alarm as our neighbours but were quite disillusioned when the alarm company rang one of our other neighbours to tell them that an alarm had gone off "yesterday" - and asking if everything was alright now!! Not a lot of use had it been thieves.

If they are not connected to a call centre they are illegal.

Well I'm sorry but it did happen in Albox 2 years ago  - there was a big hole in the outside wall where the thieves had smashed there was in - and the alarm was on the floor next to it.

Don't see how this could happen. You must provide a password to prove that you are the house owner. We have set the alarm off accidently and this has always happened. They talk to you over the mobile telephone in the control box. If you do not provide the correct password the Guardia is called.

I can tell you we feel a whole lot safer having had a nice monitored alarm with battery backup, built in mobile phone chip, video, panic alarm etc, than we did before!
We've had a couple of tests with the company and it seems to work very well.

More than happy to leave the house now, and we were starting to expect to get done every time we went out during the hours of darkness!

This lot even ring us up to tell us if our electric has gone off or tripped after 6 hours......great for when you're on your hols....
you can send someone round to save your freezer contents etc.

I guess it depends on the company and quality of kit, operators etc
Before you judge someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you judge them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Alarms  are OK Babyboomer  if you live where someone can hear them go off - our nearest neighbours are at least 10 mins drive away in any direction you go - so with the hills between alarms are not heard.    I think the only reason we have not been hit is because we do have two dogs 1 very big who are patrolling our garden during most days - most visitors do not get out of their cars until he is secured - I don't know why  ???    but the system seems to have worked OK to date.

There has been since the first post by BTG  2 other burglaries both  arriba   Las Labores.     Both were to isolated  holiday homes - both have been done 4 times in the past this is the 5 th.   In each case the method of entry was the same, a   Reja's   supports { the part which goes into the wall } was either  sawn through  or pulled out of the wall.  The end result is the same with either method - the Reja can then be pulled away from the wall and entry gained through the window as if no Reja was there.

If your Rejas are installed this way get them altered before you become a victim ?

Unfortunately, holiday times is when burglaries occur.  Alarms, lights, a good barking dog and alert neighbours are really the only protection.
As an ex-security specialist my advice is fit rejas to all entrances always lock them when out, have a good alarm always set it whether you are sleeping or out, let you neighbours know when you will be away for more than a short period, be nosey take photos of unexpected cars in the neighbourhood, if in doubt call the police.

I thought I'd just copy a part of an email I just sent to my local NHW coordinator so people who live in the wider area get an early heads up that burglars with a worse attitude than is usual are out and about.....

..........Just a quickie to let you know we're just got back from our Spanish neighbours house who called us in a panic having been burgled while out this afternoon/evening at the seasonal celebrations. The house is the large farmhouse on the top of the hill opposite  *********'s place.

Whoever did it smashed several glazed panes in external metal doors before gaining entry with crow bar or similar, and then did untidy searches of all rooms, smashing all sorts of things in every room as they went. Bits and pieces taken, but they seemed to be mainly after jewellery, cash etc.

The house is what you would guess as a passer by is a Spanish owned old Cortijo and reasonably isolated in the Barrio Nuevo area just north of the main part of Las Labores on the Taberno road.
Might be a good time to make sure you make your place looks occupied when you're out and about when it's dark because my neighbours never did.
