Many thanks everyone for your help.  Have managed to sort it all out by adjusting the volume icon.
Thank you

Have just downloaded Windows 10 onto the lap top and now cannot get Skype to work.  I can log in to Skype but when making a video call or just a call it keeps dropping.  I am also informed that there are "Problems with payback device".  Skype version is 7.13.0.101
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Do you mean "Problems with payback device" or "Problems with playback device"?

If it's "playback device" that may be your audio settings, which you can tweak by going through Skype's 'tools' then 'options'. Or the driver for your speakers may need updating for Windows 10: that's something that should be sorted out between Microsoft and your speaker manufacturers. Or 'calbous1's suggestion might resolve the problem.

Good luck.

Have you tried restarting the laptop a few times,it often sorts itself.
