We used Staysure for a trip to the states. Cutting a long story short my OH had a heart attack after only four days of our month long trip.
Resulting in two hospital stays and two operations. There was a lot of hassle and stress as the insurers tried to say we lied on the application form, we had put that neither of us had any health issues, which was true.
They flew us back to UK with a doctor escort and did cover all the medical bills, which were over 100k.
Make sure you declare any medical issues and read the policy conditions carefully before signing.
So glad we had the insurance but it was a lot of hassle. One tip I would do now, have a digital copy of the policy on your mobile or some such.
We were a hundred miles from our hotel when the event happened on a day out. We did not have passports or policy with us, they were in the hotel. It would have been easier to have had the policy with us to save time and some of the stress. Also have all details of your doctor here on hand too.

Thanks for the advice folks - better have a look at Staysure then!

We always use Staysure for our annual travel insurance. America now comes under "Rest of the World" whereas a few years ago it was Europe, USA and rest of the world so its a little more expensive to insure travel to the US. With insurance I am a great believer that you get what you pay for.

Haven't found a better company than Staysure, I always use them.

I always go with Staysure as they deal with expat insurance - not every travel insurance company does.  They've never been beaten on price for me and take into consideration a number of medical issues.  A lot, of course, depends on age and medical problems.
You can't always control who walks into your life...but you CAN control which window you throw them out of.

Does anyone have any recommendations for Travel Insurance - we are going to America in April, so obviously don't want to stint on the insurance. Had a quote for 168, which is think is a bit high, but maybe I am wishful thinking.
