It won't make any difference as they follow the strict routine of pregnant ladies and children first and then numerical order as Sheriff says. Far better to go to your local health centre.

Thanks everyone. Should be able to manage it now. I don´t do waiting in line very well, perhaps I should get there at 7 am?

The Sheriff ILLIA.

Chris,

As previously suggested try your local health centre first to see if they can do it at the time required - your specialist who gave you the request for the test will probably want it doing no more than two days before you next see him ? and no later than that because the results have to be on the HS Computer for him to look at.

Most health Centres only do the tests on certain days - so you have to be sure they can do it at the time you require - if they cannot HO is where you will have to go - and it will take to trips - one to book the test using the above criterion for the dates - write down the latest date you require it done - they do not work Sat or Sundays.

When you arrive at HO  go to the large Car Park - walk down to the main buildings - and you want the rear one ' Consultas External '

Go through the Main Doors - in the bottom left of this room is the appointments desk - 3 positions - you want either of the far two - the first is for enquiries only - hand them the request form - they speak NO English !

They will give you a small appointment slip with your number on it  - if you receive this you have done it !

So while you are there - check where you go for the test  - with the appointment desk in front of you go through the doors on your right - you can only go to the left down a short corridor into a waiting area for the tests.

On the day come straight here for about 9.00 am - despite what is said above they are always busy - and despite what your number is they always take Children & Pregnant Women in first - when they have been done a queue will start for the ordinary tests - you then have to fight for your place by asking & checking the numbers of the people in the queue - and making sure you get in front of anyone with a number higher than yours - with a bit of luck you may find the person with the number just before yours.

There are five nurses usually doing the tests - so many go in at the same time - try going in at the same time as the person in front of you goes in and sit in the first empty chair - they will ask you to go out if there are none - wait a few minutes then go in again.

You soon get used to the routine.

Have had several done in the last year, at the bidding of the hospital.  They told me to get them done at my GP's and that is what I do.  Maybe you could do the same, much less stressful I should think.
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most

I agree with Roger, take your form to your health centre and they will do it, keep the leftover identity labels that are given back to you. Your Doctor will have the results 3/4 days later using the reference number on the labels, the doc will print it out for your use. Usually you can get the results before a Consultant can on the system!!!!!!

Louise

when I was pregnant, had to do the sugar test; my medical center set the appointment.
I went in a big room, took a number (still don´t know why), could enter in no time, nurses were with 5 of them, two were free, all taking samples, I could come back within the hours and have another blood test after a drink.
Meaning: it is running like  a factory. Nothing to worry about.
If you don´t know what and where, ask anyone and they point you towards the door you have to enter.

awaywiththefairies

last time I went they called two people in at once and the 'tannoy' was very crackly making it difficult to hear your number, but other than that it is very simple even with the most basis spanish.

Roger

When recently my wife was asked for a blood test from a consultant in HO Hospital they said it could be done either in the hospital or at our local health centre.
Made an appontment at Arboleas Health Centre and done yesterday.
Very easy.
5 minutes.

They start at 8 you can ring up and get a number before hand as it can be quite long, Fridays are very busy I believe as they test Diabetics on that day.

If you dont have a number, take your paperwork to the reception desk by the double doors they will give you a number , after the kids and pregnant ladies are done they then start shouting out numbers.

Try contacting one of the translators that work there, they know where everything is!

Does anyone know the arrangements for having a blood test at Huercal Overa Hospital? I have a form from a HO consultant. Any special times or days. Where does one go?

Thanks
Chris
