Have you considered going to alicante ,barcelona then paris , london, its quick ,, high speed train, done it a few times. I used the over night sleeper but you can do it in a long day now , The train to madrid wasn't high speed, may have changed, unless of course you just want to get to the south west of Enland, just a thought.

Thanks CT must have missed that.

They go from Madrid Chamartin so might be worth Googling that - only two on a Saturday ! The journey seems to differ between four and six hours. The station in Santander is a short walk from the ferry terminal.

According to the Renfe web site they run four trains a day from Madrid to Santander, there's also a service from Alicante.

Thanks Lynda will check that one out.

Our friends did it when the Icelandic ash cloud was a problem.
They got a coach to Madrid then another to Santander, but you may be able to get a through train on the 2nd leg.

Hi, Has anyone used Bus or Train to get to Santander?
If so can they direct me to a suitable route?
Tried Renfe website but no joy.
Alsa bus quoted 118 euros ouch
Or is anyone going up in next week with a spare seat?
Will pay a fuel contribution
Thanks
