I think Iberlynx is trying to remind those people who have UK registered / taxed / mot'd / insured cars who live here for more than the allowed time, that their insurance may well be invalid and hence they are driving illegally.

Of course it also depends on if it applies to them as well.
Dont forget there are some over here who are not affected by Rules, Regulations and Laws,
It doesn't apply to them

Not a myth Doreen 1, if the vehicle is not road legal in the country of registration it is not legal anywhere else in Europe. These people who refuse to accept this are a menace as if they are involved in an accident who will suffer? There is also the question that if there is no tax or MoT do they have insurance at all?
If caught, and Trafico have computer access to DVLA from their cars, they will have the vehicle confiscated and face a large fine.

There is absolutely no excuse for driving an illegal vehicle. As far as I'm concerned the more the Guardia can get off the road the better.

Agree Nibbler - but, as KJH points out, there are some around here who are above the Law.

in practise in the Murcia region they are just giving a warning for a first offence for unplated vehicles or were last year, but this is summer when extra police are around so more might be stopped and harsher penalties given, but the DVLA are not interested in illegal cars, say's its Spanish police matter

Sooooooooooooooooooo - lesson to be learnt...... learn enough Spanish and ensure your vehicle is "legit" and then you will not be able to complain !!!
An NIE, identifies a foreigner in Spain for tax purposes...............
You can then become Resident which gives you the right to have your permanent address / residence in Spain (NIE number remains the same)

To date, I have not seen this be challenged and nothing has changed following the B Word

If you are resident, then MAKE SURE your car is correctly registered !!!!!!!!!

IF NOT, PAY THE PENALTY !!!!!!!!!!! and live with being here in an "incorrect" situation !!!! aside from the repercussions that may arise from being irrespnosible!!!!

Well we had a full turn out last ight in the early hours at the bottom of the hill in Arboleas at least 4 traffico cars checking plus 1 in Zugena out side the chemists.

1 chap must have going  through the road block in his car,so the traffic car followed him and turned him round and escorted the car back to the main road block.

just out of intrest for our holiday folks  suggest

dont have a tipple and drive ie even 1

if yer do get pulled be polite

Always carry yer id and car docks and make sure your passangers are polite and seated correctly ie kids in the right place

otherwise it can get ..... very expensive and at the end of the day...the pxxx head they miss could be the one that kills somebody so the cops are only doing there job.

I'm here on a extended holiday 84 days, and have been stopped twice,my car is totally legal, and I notified my insurers before leaving the uk,I have a NIE number which I as we have a property here I have been asked for on both occasions .the guardia have on both occasions checked via radio and on both occasions said you can go no problem .My brother in law is over in his car fully legal but no NIE and stopped at the same time just asked if he had a NIE which he hasn't so they visually checked his licence nothing else and sent him on his way.both times  we were "pulled"on the rambla by the same policeman
