Problem with mobile phone

Just bought a new mobile phone (Motorola gleam) and seem to have a problem. When I answer a call on the phone I can only hear the person on the other end through the speaker. Tried adjusting in settings but no can do. Dont know if it is me or the phone. Any ideas. :head Regards Alison
