Thanks Guys,
I had thought of trying that after successfully making vanilla vodka with a vanilla pod and cheap vodka. It worked a treat. the problem is getting fresh rhubarb and knowing whether to cook it and how much. Is raw rhubarb poisonous?

it's just the rhubarb leaves that are toxic, Rhubarb contains Oxalic Acid, the leaves contain a lot, the stalks not so much, so the acid makes them very tart, you can eat the stalks but if you eat them raw, might be best to dip in sugar first.

So if you fancy a nice Christmas Gin try this. Spiced Pomegranate Gin!!

You will need

1 clementine
3 pomegranates
350 g caster sugar
200 ml pomegranate juice
12 whole peppercorns
4 cinnamon sticks
4 star anise
1 litre Gin

Zest and juice the clementine, then remove the seeds from the pomegranates.
Combine all the ingredients in a pan, except the pomegranate seeds and gin.
Heat gently until the sugar has dissolved. Bring to a gentle boil then take off the heat and leave to cool.
Add the pomegranate seeds and gin and decant into a large glass container or several glass bottles. Leave for 2 weeks, or as long as possible.
Strain and pour into your chosen bottles (leave unstrained if you think it looks more interesting).

It will keep in a cool, dark place it will be fine for up to 2 months, so be perfect for Christmas.

Hi Guys,
Is anyone going to Gibraltar soon that could see if any of the shops/supermarkets sell Rhubarb gin. We want to know what brands they sell and what price for what size. We are hoping to go ourselves mid December if it is available at a sensible price.
Many thanks,
Mike and Linda
