Rog here is a crisis

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7hOpT0lPGI

we have always had water shortages and outages  in this area because its desert  ......ie the old saying no water in summer and no electric in winter when it storms ....

and as for water in Arboleas ,people have all the water there ever going to use the only down side is ....its in there pools

so as we go into global warming head on,( as were are going to do if the last two winters are anything to go by or lack of two winters given the mildness)

people will need to have water deposits fitted and duct rain water into the deposit  as per the older spanish house design in this area for when the normally torrential rain does arrive

The crisis is not Arboleas.
It's the whole of Andalucia.
And more so in Barcelona.
That is why there are plans to ship in water costing millions.

Rog.... so were has this "New Arboleas Crisis "appeared from ,apart from the lack of rain water ,which is an issue for us farming folks .

the local water has always been no portable because of the calcium levels....and in some wider  areas  radioactivity levels

so apart from the lack of rain....there is no crisis unless we have all been in crisis for the past 3 decades and nobody has told us ie a sort of crisis light lol  ::)

morning campers and happy Andulze dia  8)

anyway dears on a lighter note .....

Maybe one of our" local organiser  folks "  could organise an" Arboleas New  Crisis" event ,were the winner wins a week in a Nuclear  fallout shelter once we go into a proper crisi .....

or perhaps our local gardening club ,could hold a "crops that will grow with no sunlight evening" .....i readiness for the new ww3  food crisis .......just a thought  .  ::)

Regarding the local issue of water supply to the upper Arroyo Aceituna, there is a report on Ayuntamiento Arboleas Facebook page.
This is in response to the recent Psoe comment, and is also an update on planned work.

Byrney, it's not clear.  It was damaged in the 2012 floods and was out of use for a long long time (e.g. in 2022 it was still reportedly out of action).  Front what I can find it's still only running at 10% of capacity.  However, last month (10 Jan) the Junta de Andalucia awarded a €7.4m contract to Sayr to upgrade the plant.

Is the desalination plant down on the coast up and running to full capacity?

WATER CRISIS.

I see that the PSOE locally is demanding that GALASA reduces the charge for water supply in the upper part of the Arroyo Aceituna due to the below legal quality.
Who is paying for the replacement water supply by weekly tankers?

However the big issue is shortage of water everywhere in southern Spain, and there is no forecast of rain in sufficient amounts any time soon.

Barcelona is in crisis.
Tarragona is opposed to more water being taken from the Ebro because it will affect the rice fields in the delta, and will destroy the local economy.
The Socialist Republican Government of Catalunya has signed an agreement with the PSOE Government in Madrid to obtain huge amounts of water from the desalinisation plant in Segunto, delivered by tanker ships.
The cost will be massive and how it will be met is subject to much debate, given the obscure form of the agreement.
It looks to me that the cost will be transferred to long term capital debt, but it is not clear who will carry the debt.

The crisis is now hitting Andalucia, particularly Malaga.
The local farmers are opposing taking water from local wells because they depend on this source for their fruit and vegetable crops, which is the back bone of the local economy.
The PP regional Government has just opened a new treatment plant to treat waste water to be suitable for irrigation.
Estepona City Council has announced that they are going to build their own desalination plant to give long term water security.
But this will not solve the current problem.

So the PP Regional Government has signed an agreement with the PSOE Government in Madrid similar to the agreement with Catalunya.
In June they will start bringing huge amounts of water by ship to the ports of Almeria, Malaga and Cadiz.
The shipping cost far exceeds the cost of the water, which alone will be much more expensive than current supplies, because it has to come from as yet un named privately owned desalinization plants.
How the cost will be met is not totally clear.
