Why do the politicians think that an increase in prices in an economic crisis will result in an increase?

because they have no knowlege of economic concepts such as the elasticity of demand and the effects of changes to price on demand and income.

Yes it was in Tumbit/Murcia Today , yesterday. They are only reversing what they increased last year. After crowing about increase in passenger numbers, record summer, etc ; etc; the overall passenger figures are down. As usual thev've just been shown to be lying bastards.
Why do the politicians think that an increase in prices in an economic crisis will result in an increase? They did it before with tobacco & gained 1.5billion euros less in tax in the following year. They increased it again the following year & "gained" less , once again.
Same with the fuel . Up goes the price, down goes the usage & income! They are all as thick as ****, no matter what country you are in.
The first lesson that they really need to have beaten in to them is that they have only the income from taxes from the previous year to spend. Not think that they can generate more money by raising taxes to cover shortfalls . Cuts should always start at the top & work down , with the taxpayer & people who are actually footing the bill for all the nonsense , being affected last.
We really need a complete revolution.
There we go, that's the morning off to a good start. :tiphat:

Just read this in the Business section on the RTE news website.
I can't see it in any of the Spanish websites...that I use.

At little bit of good news, hopefully.   :wave

Spain will cut the tariffs airlines pay to use the country's airports and remove the charge entirely in some cases in an attempt to boost falling traffic, the government said today.
The cuts will reverse increases made over the past two years, which doubled tariffs at Spain's two largest airports in Madrid and Barcelona.
The increases had prompted budget airline EasyJet to close its Madrid base and Ryanair to reduce flights and routes.
The measure could increase traffic in Spain's 46 airports by about 2%, or almost 4 million passengers, Public Works Minister Ana Pastor said.
Passenger traffic was down 4.9% year on year in the first nine months of the year, or by 7.5 million travellers, on falling demand for domestic flights in the midst of an economic slump and the elimination of routes across Spain.
The reduced tariffs will take effect from January 2014, and will be applicable to new routes and for any moves by airlines aimed at increasing air traffic, Spain's airport regulator AENA said.
Rates charged per passenger on routes that carry additional travellers will be cut by 75% and new routes will have the tariffs removed completely.
