What a brilliant performance by Emma Raducanu not losing a single set in the whole tournament that she had to qualify to play in. In an outstanding match Raducanu was ruthless and brave enough to keep hitting the lines, taking her opponent from one side of the court to another. It was important to get off to a good start, with Fernandez struggling to hold serve in her opening game lasting nearly ten minutes. Raducanu showed no signs of nerves to become the first British female tennis player to win a grand slam after 44 years.

She will now be named BBC Sports Personality of the Year and look forward to a long list of sponsorship deals as well as climbing up the World rankings and no doubt winning more grand Slams. Well done Emma, it was a great game to watch.

Yes, both players were born in Canada. I remember Greg Rudedski, a former Canadian tennis player changed his citizenship to play for the UK, that went down like a lead balloon in Canada, but warmly received in the UK.

Some may say that if Emma Raducanu wins tonight's tennis final at the age of 18 years it is because some of the top players have stayed away because of the fear of Covid. But for me, this young 18 year old lady on the world stage who has held a racket since before she started school deserves all the rewards to have gone this far without dropping a single set as well as being the first ever qualifier to reach a major final.
She was born in Canada and moved to the UK at 2 year old. Her oponant in tonight's final was also born in Canada 19 years ago. 😎
