Hi owdoggy,
My daughter is still playing and writing, a couple of rare performances. She was over a couple of weeks ago. Some great evenings singing with her. Only 10 days, far too short.
Keep writing and recording mate.
Vida. Disfruta el viaje.

Hola Owdoggy,

The vocal reminds me of a certain Mr P Gabriel, must take some time making a recording like this?

L L.

Thank you, that's praise indeed because I've always been a Peter Gabriel fan since the days of early Genesis.

The songs vary in time taken, it depends on how fast the ideas come but at least I have simplified my recording equipment now so I'm strictly plug in & play. I used to have a full blown computer recording set up that did everything except the weekly wash but I found I spent more time struggling with the technology rather than making music so now if there's something I want to change I just play it again..... much easier. :))

This one:

although he didn't know it. The drum track is lots of little digital recordings, most just a few seconds long, made by the the talented Mr Phillips and put together by me.

Drum loops are method open to recording musicians who need that "real drum" sound but haven't the time, inclination or finances to use a real drummer ....... because all drummers are aliens . The loops are commercially available so copyright doesn't rear it's ugly head and sound, to me, pretty good.

Hola,

Was watching a feature on John Bonham the other day, I can now see where he appears to have taken his "Moby Dick" solo from watching Jo Morrello.

L L.

Which song did Simon Phillips play on for you Owdoggy?

owdoggy

That nice Mr Phillips played the drums on one of my songs and a certain Mr Chamberlain did the drum track on another ......... you gotta love those drum loops  :))

Tets, I have two distinct reactions when watching very, very good drummers. Some, like the dudes from Ozzy and Whitesnake, make me want to nip out to the studio and have a go at what I've just listened to. Sort of, "snit, witha bit of practice I could almost get that down..."

Then there are Morello, Rich, Philips, and...well, the list is too long TBH.

I listen to them and feel like selling the kits and taking up harmonica.

LL: thanks for that link, great fun (if enough to keep me off the kit for at least today!!)

Hola,

Seen and heard some of the world's best, this fella tops my list, for sound and syncopation.

Okay, I get that drum solos aren't everyone's cup of tea but if you do like them, this one is one of the very best from the late, very great JM.

So much to discuss re. his technique, use of time signatures, weight of sticks, independence, just.....wow.

Hope you like it.
