Title: GAS LIGHTS
Post by: windug on December 29, 2012, 19:41:38 PM

As this evening we have had had a few power cuts, just after dark. Is it possible to obtain fixed gas lights ( butano).
If these are available, or even legal, it might make a better alternative to candles.

Until I was almost 13 years old, these were the only lights we had in our house, it was hurricane lamps in the cowsheds.
Probably with the lack of draughts all through our modern houses these things are banned on safety reasons.

Does anyone know anything about this?

You can still buy gas mantles & hey are used in various parks still.

There is some concern over radon220 (?) exposure when used indoors.
Camping gaz do a portable version so I can't see why it can't be modified to be made permanent.

Thanks Gus, Interesting. Will look at the possibility of the Camping Gaz system.
