Knowing people that have been in explosions and nearly killed by carbon monoxide get someone qualified to look at your heater , gas is dangerous

That says it all!!

thanks for all your input and pm's Adam had cleared out a birds nest last week, but today after some advise about taking the whole thing off the wall he tipped it upside down and there was loads more nest further down, he has now chicken wired the top and water is lovely and hot...

Have you checked that the radiators the gas heats are clean, they get clogged up with use just like a car radiator, and then the heat cannot get to the water, it's a simple matter of stripping the boiler down and brushing them out. A clear sign of it being this problem is if you have black soot in or above the chimney area, this also means the boiler is emitting Carbon Monoxide fumes as it's not burning efficiently.
If your not meant to have midnight snacks, why do they put a light in fridges?

i'm not so sure it is the pressure, we have had the boiler for 5 years but lived here for 11, Steve iv'e done all the usual cleaning shower head and unblocking filters, iveeven adjusted the knob under boiler to adjust mount of water coming in still no joy, partner has take pipes off and cheked everything all seems normal..

Hiya, we had exactly the same problem, unfortunately was down to the water pressure had the boiler engineer out to check he confirmed pressure was the problem.
brought a pump 220euros (sorry) but the problem fixed

Check that the filter where the mains water goes into the boiler isn't blocked. Also check that your shower head and tap filters are clear.

We had exactly the same problems as you and we were told it was our water pressure, there is not enough pressure using it straight from the mains. So we have an electric water heater now and it works much better, lovely hot water, never ever had that before!!!  :)

Good luck
