ladder snake

Harmless, they spit and will nip you, but no venom there. The most popular you'll see in this area are, Ladders, Horseshoe Whip, Viperine and smooth snakes. All non venomous.
The biggest you'll see is the Montpellier, (Culebra bastarda), they grow to 3m in length and do have venom, a single fang in their throat to kill their prey. As long as your finger/hand doesn't end up at the back of their throat, you'll be ok.

The adders and Asp viper ARE venomous, but I haven't seen any in the wild in this area. (Though they are there :wink:)
I've been informed that all the local surgeries have anti venom in stock.  :grin:

I take it the Ladder Snake isn't venomous ?? I'm trying to teach myself about the snakes I find in this area of Spain.

Another snake out and about today, 13th November, should be hibernating by now.
Fully grown ladder, I picked him up for a closer look and video, here's a screen shot from the video. :grin:
