I was lucky enough to be able to go regularly to the pub just outside Chadwell Heath where he was in a resident band called Spinning Wheel - probably one of the 2 or 3 best pub bands I've ever seen. After a couple of months of going there several times a week my bass player asked if I could go up and jam with them to which they said 'yes' - so one of my main claims to fame is that I've played with Rick Wakeman.

But when I say that I (usually) leave out the jamming bit or that it was only a couple of songs...used to impress girls a lot!

One other thing - when the band took a break he'd often pull out a small stack of what looked like school exercise books and regale the audience with readings from his large collection of extremely smutty limericks, poems and tales. We were all very ****** off when he left to join the Strawbs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, despite the interviewer and the crap camerawork. Such a great raconteur and damned funny, too!

Excellent! I am a Wakeman fan but he once took my sister to lunch, this was during the filming of Ken Russel's Lisztomania and she thought he was a drunken fat git
