My kettle cost €5, and I scrub it out every few boils to remove calcium deposits. Have had it for years and it works just fine.

You've got a lot more energy than me! My electric kettle is 8 years old: it's never been cleaned, yet still looks brand new - thanks to pure water!

Boiling local or bottled water, loaded with calcium, is a serious problem for kettle life!

As long as you only boil water filtered by reverse osmosis, your kettle (whatever its make) will last forever...

Oh yes..........I didn't think of that !!!   Looks pretty sound at the moment though.  I will keep an eye on it now. Thank you.

Thank you all for the replies.  :tiphat:

Crystal2 - after 4 years bottom has sprung a leak.  :(

I bought mine from Hiper Ocio 3 years ago and it is still going strong.  I think I paid 7 euros for it.  Not too sure what can go wrong with a whistling kettle on the gas hob.

Agree with Mike, Wesko is the best !

Home Sweet Home in Turre have quite a good selection of whistling kettles, not cheap though.

I think you will struggle to get any decent quality whistling gas kettle over here , we went through 3 in just over a year  :head , ended up buying one from Amazon UK , bought a "Wesco" make , not cheap but good quality , still perfect after 3 years use
