Best Plants and tress to have around your Pool?

We always go to the garden centre at Vera..they have a good selection

Suggestions please for you gardeners out there...what are the best plants and trees to have around your pool?

We have palm trees but would like to add something with a little colour that is not going to be messy by dropping leaves etc.

I have read 'Mexican Bird of Paradise' is a good one....so to add to the question... where is the best place to find any of your suggestions  :tiphat:
